X District "Color Correction" Press

"We once had a degenerate online conversation that ended with us smashing our hard-drive, skipping town and burning our fingerprints off with acid.* Warp wiz Jimmy Edgar and Laura Clarke have turned their cryptic, carnal chats into a dark and dirty electro-funk record. Clearly we need to step up our banter game."

"One of the most interesting acts right now is X District (Club / Electro / Funk according to their myspace). I was pretty amazed when I read the press document:

Which started out as an accidental exchange of cryptic and symbolic writings between Jimmy and Laura, ended up as the "Color Correction" MAXI-Single on Noir Push Recordings.

Minimalistic electro with sexual, mystic, almost occult tensions? And to top it all: I can't resist recalling Kraftwerk when I hear the simple beats, rhythms and austere melodies. It's very Techno Pop-esque. And I'm like the only one who accepted and liked Electric Café but I might guess I'm not alone anymore."

"These are exciting times my friends: Music is being conceived and distributed in new & interesting ways. Take X District for example. They are a collaboration between Warp records artist Jimmy Edgar and Laura Clarke. They have only met once, for 5 minutes. All the music has been made via online video connection. They make sleek, seductive electronic beats. There is a long player slated for early 2008, have a listen to current single "Color Correction""

"X District is a new music collaboration featuring Laura Clarke and Jimmy Edgar. Which started out as an accidental exchange of cryptic and symbolic writings between Jimmy and Laura, ended up as the "Color Correction" MAXI-Single on Noir Push Recordings. Plans for a full length LP for early 2008 on Noir Push Recording."

"X District is a new group, or experiment, or both, that consists of Warp Records wiz kid Jimmy Edgar and English Femme Fatale Laura Clarke. The project saw the light of day after a string of, mostly dark and abstract, conversations between the two took place online. The conversations were recorded and then Edgar arranged the music to fit in with the words, resulting in a wicked mixture of dark minimalistic electro and slack, laid back vocals that breathes more sex than you daddy´s X - rated collection.

Color Correction is lifted from the group´s debut EP, with the same name, that´s out now on the great Brooklyn based label Noir Push Recordings. The EP also features the tracks Plus/Minus, Icasahedron and 9 Red Rooms (that´s being remixed by none other than electro hero Egyptian Lover), that are all absolutely excellent, meaning that you´re buying this release a.s.a.p, agreed?"

"Warp Records has never been a label that has greatly interested me, much to the chargrin of some friends. The collected (or should that be selected) works of artists such as Aphex Twin and Squarepusher, save a My Red Hot Car or Windowlicker, seem to have passed me by over the years.

In fact, one of the very Warp releases I own is the Access Rythmn EP by Detroit producer Jimmy Edgar, which was purchased at the behest of my friend Perez who used to rave about him (now she's a proper Warp freak!) but which I am happy as a kid with apple pie to own as it is splendid - the crunchy analogue hiphop of Urban Outtake in particular.

I've tried to keep an eye on Mr Edgar's music since then, last year's Plus Device album on Hefty Records is rumoured to be the work of young Jimmy - if it is then I applaud him cos it's great.

I was more than happy then, to get a sample of his latest project as one half of X District, the other half being filled, quite notably, by tattooed vocalist Laura. Coming on like Chromeo if they weren't obsessed with Roger Troutman and one of them was a Suicide Girl from Leeds, it's a good look!"
